Help me Choose a City-break in Russia & Ukraine

Here you will find detailed information on itinerary focus of each tour.
Please note that our standard city-break packages cover Russia and Ukraine only and we hope this quick guide will help you choose the most appropriate itinerary for you. If you are still unsure please contact Go Russia and our experienced travel consultants will be happy to answer all your questions about our city-breaks or alternatively prepare personalised itineraries based on your own preferences.

ITINERARY FOCUS

Regardless of the tour emphasis, all our standard packages do include must-see cultural treasures. In Moscow, this includes the Kremlin, Red Square, the Armoury and the fabulous Moscow Underground, while in St Petersburg we can’t leave out the Hermitage and Peterhof Palace with its stunning park and fountain complex. Around those highlights we can build an individualised tour to make your visit just what you’re looking for.

We have also designed a tour package for independent travellers where we provide accommodation, transfers, train travel and visas, leaving you free to build your own programme in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Please see below for more details.

We believe you should start by making some decisions - why you are going to Russia, what drives you to travel to your chosen destinations and what you’d like to get out of your trip.  Are you looking for a general overview or do you have a particular interest in mind – perhaps recent history, culture, UNESCO treasures, World War II or space exploration?

Do you want to concentrate on Moscow and St. Petersburg or do you want to explore further? Our tours could take you to the beautiful old churches of the Golden Ring near Moscow or to the far north to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. We also have special events tours; you could see in the New Year with our celebration package or visit the MAKS air show on our package for aviation lovers. If you want to be treated like a tsar, and also see some hidden treasures we have a luxury holiday too. We have also designed packages for those who want to explore the highlights of Southern Russia and Sochi Olympic venues.

Below you’ll see a table setting out our itineraries according to their main focus. Please also note that we can create a bespoke programme for you. All you have to do is complete an enquiry form and we will be able to build a holiday around your interests, timeframe and budget.

TRAVEL PERIOD

Planning when to travel is as important for a Russian holiday as planning where to go. The weather patterns are different to the UK as Russia is influenced by a continental climate. Broadly speaking this means they experience much hotter summers and much colder winters than we do. This shouldn’t put you off travelling in the winter months; so long as you dress appropriately, you’ll find there are advantages for the off-peak tourist, not least that packages are cheaper. Queues at museums and other attractions will be significantly shorter than in summer and there’s a certain magic to seeing Russia under a dense blanket of crisp white snow. Of course, you’ll enjoy travelling in summer too, when the flowers are in bloom, the skies are blue and the sun catches on the metal domes of Russia’s beautiful churches. Further north, the days will stretch long into the evening and you’ll get to experience the country’s white nights. In spring and autumn, some say you have the best of both worlds, but whenever you choose to visit, we are sure you’ll have a great time.
