Hong Kong has enjoyed special status since being returned to China by the British in 1997. This prosperous and vibrant territory is a world-class destination beloved by many for its curious and unique mix of eastern and western cultures. The towering skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island and the sheltered harbour that divides it from bustling Kowloon are perhaps its most iconic sight. But there’s much more to explore: outlying islands boast secluded beaches and charming fishing villages that are surprisingly rural yet easy to reach from the city. A short boat ride away is the neighbouring territory of Macao, returned by the Portuguese in 1999, and a fascinating contrast to Hong Kong.

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Hong Kong. On arrival, you’ll be met by a guide at the airport who will accompany you for your transfer to a centrally-located hotel. Alternatively you can take the train from Beijing to Hong Kong.Day 2

Today’s included sightseeing programme offers an introduction to the territory’s highlights. On a half day tour, you’ll ascend the famous Victoria Peak. From the top you’ll have breathtaking views across the city and its harbour. Descend to explore Repulse Bay, which perhaps takes its name from when the Royal Navy expelled the pirates that operated there. Today, it’s an upscale resort and residential area with a great beach. Pay a visit to Stanley Market, a traditional open air affair offering plenty of bargains. Take a sampan ride across Aberdeen harbour, a quintessentially Hong Kongese activity. The afternoon has been left free for you to explore Hong Kong on your own.Day 3

The sightseeing programme continues with another half day tour. This time, the focus is on Wong Tai Sin Temple, a sprawling Taoist temple dedicated to the Great Immortal Wong. Also on the itinerary is a visit to the Nan Lian Garden, designed in the style of the Tang Dynasty and its serenity a marked contrast to the busy city beyond its gates. Next up is Yuen Po Bird Garden, also referred to as the bird market, in which you’ll encounter old men carrying songbirds in cages – they take them for a walk just as you or I would take the dog out. This afternoon, there’s more free time to explore. Perhaps you’ll pay a visit to the Big Buddha on Lantau Island or the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery in Sha Tin.Day 4
