The library on Lake Baikal
Travel News in Russia, ex USSR, Mongolia & China
The world’s first ice library has been set up on the edge of Lake Baikal not far from the city Baikalsk in Russia. The structure is built of transparent ice from the lake cast into walls, on which the hope and dreams of over 1,000 people all over the world have been engraved.
The project is designed to encourage tourism to Lake Baikal and the city of Baikalsk, not just in winter, but year round.
Lake Baikal, the deepest in the world, has a unique eco-system and is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
If you want your dreams to be engraved in the ice library on Lake Baikal, you can send a text on the special section of the official website of this event.
The library however, will only stand until it melts approx. until mid-April.
