Dear Traveller, |
Autumn newsletter: a great year so far for Russian tourism |
Autumn’s drawing to a close and what a summer it has been for Russia. The World Cup was a roaring success, not least because
England reached the semi-finals. Whether you were there in person or watching on TV, you can’t have failed to notice that Russia
was a big deal this year.
|
If you are the lucky recipient of a Fan ID, Putin’s announcement that you can return to Russia until the end of 2018 visa-free
is a great opportunity to see more of this wonderful and diverse country. Cruise and ferry passengers booking an organised tour
can also visit for up to 72 hours
visa-free.
If you’re not in possession of a Fan ID, or you’d like to stay longer, it’s a straightforward process to secure a visa and we
will be happy to assist you.
|
|
Where would you go? Autumn’s a great time to cross Russia on the iconic
Trans-Siberian railway –
temperatures are still not
below zero and yet, the crowds of summer have dissipated. Moscow is a popular destination in its own right, of course, and who
can resist a trip to elegant St Petersburg? After a rocky patch and some political tension earlier in the year, Russia proved
this summer that it welcomes tourists with open arms and gained their trust. We’re looking forward to
arranging tours
for many more of you in 2019.
|
|
But we’re also not limiting ourselves to Russia – we’re expanding into the
Caucasus.
Once off the beaten track to all but the
most intrepid of travellers, more and more people are discovering the charms of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Each country
has its own character and attractions, but it’s easy to travel between them to combine them into one holiday should you wish.
|
|
Perhaps you’d like to try out the thermal baths of Tbilisi, the Georgian capital, try the delicious wines of Kakheti or hike
the breathtaking mountain trails of Svaneti? In
Armenia,
why not experience the vibrant capital Yerevan, with its many museums,
cafes and markets? Or venture into the countryside to see hilltop monasteries overlooking azure lakes and vertiginous gorges?
Azerbaijan
is the most Soviet of the three; take a trip to see Baku’s Flame Towers or pop out of town to see the flaming
hillside of Yanar Dag. There’s plenty more inspiration on our dedicated Caucasus website,
www.best-of-caucasus.co.uk,
so why not take a look?
|
If you’re already planning your travels for 2019 and if you’re planning on heading our way,
we’d love to help you build the holiday of your dreams, so
why not give us a call?

Is it time you visited Novosibirsk?
|
Unless you’re a regular visitor to Russia, you probably won’t have put Novosibirsk on your sightseeing itinerary. But that’s a mistake: though overshadowed by Moscow and St Petersburg, there are plenty of reasons why you should visit Novosibirsk too.
