Dear Traveller, |
Here’s our autumn round up |
What a glorious summer it’s been! As August has drawn to a close, the sun’s still shining and the temperatures are holding up.
Who knows, we might even have an Indian summer this year. Russia’s weather also looks promising – the extended forecasts are
currently predicting warm temperatures and fine sunny weather into September.
|
Why not take advantage of this and treat yourself to a tour? It’s not too late to book – we have availability for some of our
tours over the autumn months. It’s a great time to visit. The crowds that flock to the country’s most popular destinations
have thinned and the ice and snow of winter are still a long way off.

|
Autumn’s the time to see the spectacular fall colours in the nation’s parks. The exact time the leaves change varies of course
from year to year, but usually you’ll find a rich colour palette of russets, ochres, golds and oranges around late September
to mid-October. In and around Moscow and St Petersburg, there are many parks and estates with formal gardens where you’ll see
colourful foliage into the autumn.
|
In Moscow for instance, pay a visit to the Kuskovo Estate on the eastern fringes of the city. Once the summer retreat for the
wealthy Sheremetev family, it’s now home to the Russian State Museum of Ceramics and a favourite place for Muscovites on a
weekend. Tsaritsyno Park is a formal park in the capital dotted with pavilions, bridges and arches, all of which look
spectacular with a backdrop of autumnal foliage. A grand 18th-century royal palace built for Catherine II nestles amid those
formal gardens, now home to a museum with a fine collection of art and antiques.

It’ll soon be Moscow day!
|
Moscow will celebrate its 872nd birthday over the first full weekend in September. It’s fitting that there’ll be a big bash as the city itself kicked off after a party. Then, the host was Prince Yuri Dolkgoruky – in 1147, he decided that his troops deserved a party as a thank you for being loyal. The c...
