New High-Speed Route Opened Between Nizhny Novgorod - Moscow - Petersburg

Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin said at the opening ceremony: "Now Nizhny Novgorod, with its population of over a million, will be linked to Moscow and St Petersburg by a high-speed, reliable, and comfortable means of transport".
The minimum price of a “Sapsan” ticket on the Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhny Novgorod – Moscow routes will be around 33 Euros in economy class, and around 69 Euros in business class.
The “Sapsan” service currently runs six times a day on the St Petersburg – Moscow – St Petersburg route (one of these trains continues on the St Petersburg – Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod route).
In order to be able to run the high-speed service, the infrastructure of the Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod line was modernized. Over period of 4 years, construction was carried out at 54 passenger platforms, 139 km of overhead lines were fully overhauled, barriers were built up along 331 km of the route.
The “Sapsan” is a high-speed electric train of the Velaro RUS series produced by the company Siemens Transportation Systems, and capable of a maximum speed of 250 km/h.
